Most of the time, videos are the files that exceed the limit when I upload something. It would be nice to also have them compress down via bitrate reduction or something.
This isn't really practical since editing a video can take several minutes. It makes more sense to just modify the file locally where you can use a tool that's (probably) faster than Javascript like ffmpeg before uploading it. Having said that, I found this port of ffmpeg which is a good place to start if you want to add this functionality.
