Neogit misreads Nvim version

Description

With default-ish lazyvim (v11.4.1) setup:

  "NeogitOrg/neogit",
  dependencies = {
    "nvim-lua/plenary.nvim", -- required
    "sindrets/diffview.nvim", -- optional - Diff integration
    "tpope/vim-fugitive",

    -- Only one of these is needed, not both.
    "nvim-telescope/telescope.nvim", -- optional
    -- "ibhagwan/fzf-lua", -- optional
  },
  config = true,
  keys = {
    {
      "<leader>gN",
      ":Neogit<CR>",
      desc = "Open Neogit",
    },
  },
}

I'm getting the following error when trying to initiate Neogit:
Neogit HEAD requires at least NVIM 0.10 - Pin to tag 'v0.0.1' for NVIM 0.9.x

Neovim version

NVIM v0.9.5
Build type: Release
LuaJIT 2.1.1713517273

Operating system and version

macOS 14.4.1 (23E224)

Steps to reproduce

  1. Install Neogit with Lazy and return a table as described above
  2. Try to open Neogit with :Neogit<CR>

Expected behavior

Open the Neogit UI

Actual behavior

Throws an error:
Neogit HEAD requires at least NVIM 0.10 - Pin to tag 'v0.0.1' for NVIM 0.9.x

You're using NVIM v0.9.5 with HEAD, which will not work since there is usage of some NVIM v0.10.0 only API's.

You can either:

  • Update to NVIM 0.10
  • Add tag = 'v0.0.1' to your lazy spec.

Hope that helps :)
