I wonder if this software could run on the GTX series.
Yes, that works as well.
Note however that the dedicated ray tracing hardware (RTcores) in the RTX cards provide a substantial performance boost.
From the OptiX 6.5 release notes:
All NVIDIA GPUs of Compute Capability 5.0 (Maxwell) or higher are supported.
