What will happen in your session?

Participants will learn how communities across the global Black diaspora are wielding the internet to counter false narratives and spark change IRL. From Brazil to South Africa, the United States to United Kingdom, individuals of African descent are innovating online campaigns and tools with very real implications. They are organizing civic power, amplifying underrepresented stories, shutting down problematic institutions and leading the way in online-to-offline change.

This session will explore examples of resistance and advocacy campaigns, as well as the data and technology that define them, and how these initiatives are shifting anti-Blackness.
Participants will spend the final 30 minutes brainstorming a certain type of anti-Black dynamic that is prevalent in their community, then producing ideas for oppositional online campaigns or tools.

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The goal of the Decolonizing the Net session will be for participants to learn how digital campaigns and platforms geared toward dismantling anti-Blackness have formed, evolved and flourished around the world.

This proposal has progressed to our next phase of deliberation! We will be following up shortly.

@collettewatson I'm seeking clarity on your stipend request. Your proposal has made it through to the next phase of consideration by the Digital Inclusion wrangler team. Unfortunately though, we've got way more seeking stipends than we have access to. If we were unable to give you access to a stipend, might you have other means available to you to make it to Mozfest?

This is exciting, thank you for the consideration! I do not have other means for making it to Mozfest at this time.

@collettewatson Thank you for quick response and providing clarity. The Digital Inclusion Team will be in touch shortly with final curation and stipend decisions.

Best,
