What will happen in your session?

crowdAI (www.crowdAI.org) is a not-for-profit platform for open data challenges, also previously part of an Mozilla Open Leadership Training Programme.
It has two goals:

  1. to be the place for solving (big) data problems through open challenges and collaboration; and
  2. to be the place for learning about the techniques used to solve these problems.

At this session, we will have two goals:
2) Discuss two of the current running challenge. One with Stanford on Artificial Intelligence for Musculoskeletal modelling, and second with OpenSNP on predicting the height of a participant from openly available genomic data.
3) Introduce CrowdAI Dojo, a training ground for programmers and machine learning enthusiasts to learns the basics of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence

What is the goal or outcome of your session?

The goal of the session is to introduce the attendees at Mozfest to our community of 2000 strong data scientists. We would also want to explore the possibility of collaborating with researchers to launch challenges on openly available data.

For those who are currently getting into data science and machine learning, we very much hope all the open models and tutorials on crowdAI are an inspiration for further work.
If anyone is interested writing an open tutorial on an aspect of machine learning, we would be delighted to help and put it on the crowdAI Knowledge Base.

@KirstieJane : Any advice on which space is the best for this session proposal 👼.

We are working towards involving the general population in Applied Machine Learning and Artifiicial Intelligence. And we also have a leaderboard full of hopping/running/walking AI powered skeleton simulations built by participants all over the world. Artificial Intelligence for everyone.

Hi @spMohanty - I'm really sorry - I don't think we're going to be able to take CrowdAI this year in Open Innovation 😞 . We've just had so many great proposals!

I'm not sure if it fits in other spaces either.....

Thank you for taking the time to submit a session to MozFest. Due to the high level of submissions, we’re unable to accept all proposals and unfortunately, your session was not part of the final group.

Thank you for taking the time to submit and we will follow up on email very soon.

Hi @spMohanty , my name is Kasia and I work on Mozilla’s Internet Health Report. At Mozfest we will be present with an “Internet Research Hub” #618 (last comment) - an easy-going, cozy space for discussions and networking both with us about Internet Health and among researchers themselves.

We also invite anyone who does work in an Internet research field to sign up and present their work at a couple of open display tables we will have in the hub. We will promote these sessions throughout the festival. You can do it spontaneously with pen and paper on site or if you would like to save a spot beforehand, drop me an email at kasia@mozillafoundation.org with a short description of the session.

In any case, I would like to invite you to pass by the Hub and say hi. We will start with an informal "Research and coffee grinder” get-together at the beginning of the festival where people can get to know each other. Space and exact schedule for the Hub are still being decided and I will update you once we know the details. Hope to see you there!
