What will happen in your session?
Surveillance in the digital world is something really ethereal, and difficult to show. People chant all about "big data", "surveillance capitalism", and "advertising profiles", and it seems like we are preaching against the invisible boogeyman. We want to change that, and to show how it works. On the cheap. Using only opensource software.
We are making an Access Point named "this wifi will track you". When you join it, it starts hearing all your communications with the outside world - and reports those back to you, with graphs and statistics, so you can see how big data and surveillance capitalism works in practice.
What is the goal or outcome of your session?
For people to understand how easy it is to be surveilled ON THE CHEAP. The BIg Brother Surveillance State is now a reality, the demons are out of the box and the better way to deal with that is with laws, not technology.
