Timers seem to randomly stop while in the background

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start a task timer
2. switch to a different application
3. return to the app and the timer has stopped

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I would expect the timer to continue running in the background.  
It is not consistent, but sometimes when I return to the timer program the 
timer has stopped and I've lost track of my time for that task.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Pomodoro Tasks 1.4, HTC Android 2.1
