Not seeing AAC files.

I have a number of AAC files I want to tag. These are not DRM protected.
I'm using onetagger 1.7.0.
The files are essentially invisible to onetagger. Auto tag doesn't find anything, and I don't see them if I use quick-tag or edit-tags.
All files have the .aac extension. .mp3 files are no issue.
I know onetagger has AAC support but what am I missing here?
Apparently the .aac files need to be in an .m4a container, then it will work.
