Not connecting from Android

mrandreastoth opened this issue · comments

I can copy from my PC to Android but not the other way around. It fails with "Connect failed. (RemoteSystemUnavailable)". Oh, and the error is not even centred. :)

UPDATE: I have tried to get it to work by disabling the firewall, but no luck.

Same case. This damn error is staying there from 2017, still can't do any workaround or solve the problem.

RemoteSystemUnavailable indicates that Microsoft Rome (Roamit uses this API for communication from Android-to-Windows and Windows-to-Windows) can't communicate with the target device.

Please check if the Microsoft account on your PC is fine (doesn't need "Verify" or something in System Settings>Accounts>Your Info).

Also try checking System Settings>System>Shared experiences to see if it reports any issue. If there's no problem reported there as well, turn off "Share across devices", reboot your PC and then turn it back on.

I've checked all of this and even toggled the setting you suggested and then rebooted but still no luck. In fact, I had "I can share or receive from" set to "My devices only" and I even changed this to "Everyone nearby". But that still didn't help. I then changed "I can share or receive from" back to "My devices only".

Note that I have not linked my phone and PC using the Windows 10 feature. In fact, I can't since that setting is greyed out for me and the warning "*Some settings are hidden or managed by your organisation" shows. I think this has something to do with the fact that I am on the fast ring of Windows 10 releases.

Following this I then disabled my firewall and changed "I can share or receive from" to "Everyone nearby" and then tried to open a link from my phone but the error persisted.

Note that I have even tried changing "Phone-PC linking on this device" policy and "Continue experiences on this device" to enabled try to get access to the phone linking setting and in the hopes that that would allow my device from being detected. I did that before I switched off my firewall, though.

It would be interesting to find out what @Kenya-West's Windows settings are compared to mine. In fact, I would be keen to know @MahdiGhiasi's settings, too. The settings I am keen on are...

  • Your phone - is it available and, if so, is there a phone assigned?
  • Nearby sharing - is it enabled and, if so, what can it share/receive from?
  • Share across devices - is it enabled and, if so, what can it share/receive from?

I have the same issue with Android app. Sharing files, clipboard from PC work seamlessly. Share from Android only work one time after signed out and sign in Microsoft account.

@lamqhoang Interesting. You mean you signed out and in again on your PC's account settings? Or you mean Roamit Android app?

Hi @MahdiGhiasi ,
I signed out and Sign in on Android app. After signed in, I can only send to PC one time, then the "Connect failed. (RemoteSystemUnavailable)" issue happened. I tried several times, it's all have the same result.
I noticed that everytime I sign in, it's all required Authorize again.

@lamqhoang Project Rome's new SDK has created new methods for authentication, which should make the situation better. But unfortunately they haven't released the new version for Xamarin yet which Roamit uses (It's actually been 8 months since their last Xamarin SDK release), and they have no timeline for that. :(

As soon as the new SDK releases, I'll migrate Roamit to the new authentication system.
