Foundation elements not working

Some Foundation elements, like the flex grid, are not working whereas elements like Tabs are.
Did you activate it? XY grid is the default.
I tried using the Flex Grid and Grid codes from Foundations "kitchen sink" and neither work. I'm definitely missing something because I do not know what you mean by activating it.
