Case for hardware-tiny

kchen opened this issue · comments

Hi,

I'm planning to add hardware-tiny to my LG mini-split units, and @florianbrede-ayet or others, I'm wondering whether you have any recommendations for cases. I did see that #8 mentions the case for the non-tiny hardware, and I'll probably try that if I don't find anything better.

Also, are there any known concerns about heat? Is there any known problem if I put it in a case without a few air holes? Or are there any issues if I just attach the hardware to the wall inside the mini-split?

Thanks!

I just saw in #9 that no case is used, and it's just placed inside the indoor unit, so it seems like heat is not a concern.

Since I filed the ticket, I did end up using the Adafruit 2359 Raspberry Pi that Jan mentioned in #8, which seems to work fine. I run the wire to the outside of the unit, and stick the case to the wall right outside the unit.

Also, if anyone is looking for relevant wiring, I ended up using https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BW9TQTBK . I had some trouble finding wire with a connector on both ends, and eventually found this one.

I no longer recommend the wiring above. On some of my units, it works fine, but on others, the connection is loose, and in one case, it won't stay attached to the mini-split unit wiring at all. I think this might not be a problem with the product itself, but rather possibly general incompatibility between the JST XH connector and the receptacle on the LG cable.

I've instead acquired the official LG thermostat cable, and then spliced it with wiring with the JST XH connector, and so far, that seems to be working better.
