text in italics is not transformed to _italics_ in index.md

First off, thank you for developing these scripts, as it makes it easier to get multiple publications in the right format for our academic websites. However, I encountered an issue that I hope you can help me with, and it will probably be helpful to the community. While performing the bulk processing of publications, I had some publications that had titles in italics, which were imported as Some text \textit{in italic}. The proper way should be to transform the TeX format to markdown format so the index.md document contains the proper italisized version in markdown. If this is a feature that already exists, could you please point me in the right direction on how to make it available?
