Installation instructions do not work with latest Minecraft installer (2020)

I've recently restarted work on this project to find that the Minecraft Launcher has changed sufficiently that this installer no longer works. Looking at the changes to versions folder it is likely that the JSON file format has changed. I'll experiment with some options here to see if I can find a way to make this work as smoothly as possible for users.
On further investigation I was likely getting muddled up with the setup of the 1.5.2 Minecraft client. The installer functions as intended and additional details around related but non-blocking issues are now documented.
