18-001-DS Change UA Corridor to Special Corridor

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM: DOD joint publications 3.2 and 3.52 define air corridors in a less specific way than MIL-STD-2525. Specifically, 2525D assigns individual symbol identification codes (SIDC) to each type of corridor. This causes misalignment with APP-6 and does not follow an efficient use of current 2525D symbol construction.
The generic DOD definition of air corridor is: “A restricted air route of travel specified for use by friendly aircraft and established for the purpose of preventing friendly aircraft from being fired on by friendly forces.” Real-life uses by operators typically identify specific types of corridor depending on the type of aircraft in use for that mission. Therefore, a more comprehensive and specific definition of “special corridor” is needed.
PROPOSED SOLUTION: Change “unmanned aircraft route” (170700) in Control Measures to match the APP-6D(1) “special corridor” symbol which has the same code. Rationale: Prevent misalignment with APP-6, and maintain alignment w/ USMTF.
