Well, the formula works, but it's not quite the formula Reddit uses (but the formula which is being used by Hacker News). The "real" Reddit-formula (http://amix.dk/blog/post/19588) is based on a logarithm.
I mentioned this in the first tutorial (http://www.drurly.com/blog/2012/06/05/build-reddit-in-sinatra/). Your link is broken.
