Add lens control to unit action bar

jeroextran opened this issue · comments

This is an enhancement request.

Issue description: Unit lens view is by and large a modal action that is arguably unnecessary much of the time. But if lenses are defaulted to off for, say, builders, going into the lens view is too much clicking and scrolling for what should be a quick mode change.

Request: Add a button to the relevant units' action bar to toggle lens view on and off. This would permit the lens to stay off by default, allowing easy switching to lens mode when needed to choose the best plot.

As part of this request, all units with lens views should have both unit bar buttons and Options menu settings to toggle the default state. Thus settlers and religious units would need toggles added in the Options menu.

Agreed, I like this proposal a lot. I feel that the best implementation would be, as you've suggested, to have the default state be determined via the settings menu. However, I feel that the action panel only needs a button to toggle a temporary on/off state which only persists as long as the unit is selected. I say this because apparently unit action bar clutter is a concern among the userbase, as indicated by the considerable demand for an option to revert the old CQUI change of completely nixing the unit action expandos

Sounds nice...

Second idea:
In the original game the lens are selectable by a shortcut...
Most of the lens are unnecessary, so we could remapp them for the needed one

Will this be compact-able with "More Lenses" mod?

@gowthamnatarajan You must not use More Lenses with CQUI because it is already included.
