trying to change map pin icon

please forgive me if i am overlooking the obvious, but i'm trying to create my own map pin icon and have done so at the 42x41 pixel size and uploaded it as i have all other images, but it doesn't seem to change the dark grey "word balloon" map icon that it displays by default. any ideas? my map pin is a .png with transparency, as it should be, but either i'm misunderstanding what they mean by "map pin" or i'm doing something wrong. thanks in advance for any help you can give here as i'm fairly new to the whole omeka/curatescape cms.
At the moment that pin has to be manually changed in plugins/Geolocation/views/shared/javascripts/map.js on lines 24 and 25, where you need to link to the replacement map icons.
