Antutu 3D benchmark & Unity titles cause soft-reboots

Download any Unity-based title (the most easily accessible is the Antutu 3D benchmark) and run it.
You will find that the screen will freeze right after changing orientation to landscape, and the system will soft-reboot, restarting at the boot animation.
This issue didn't exist before the 10th of October 2017, or so I assume, as the Android-x86 7.1.2-rc2 pre-built iso is still unaffected by this issue, which points towards it being a fairly recent change in the nougat-based branches.
