Quick summary

We've received reports that featured images on posts are not displayed when shared on Facebook. However, the images do appear as expected when shared on LinkedIn and WhatsApp.

The Facebook debugger returns 429 response code, and a warning that says, The 'og:image' property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.

The issue seems to be intermittent and affects only certain areas.

Steps to reproduce

  1. On a post, make sure a featured image is set
  2. Share the post on Facebook

A clear and concise description of what you expected to happen.

The featured image appears as a thumbnail.

What actually happened

The featured image does not appear.

@rinazrina are you hosted on wordpress.com?
429 response codes happen if you sneeze right now and there seems to be no whitelisted IPs for Facebook, Google, etc.
