Whittling Knife (5778) may be used to remove the handle from a Composite weapon. Currently, the client reports that the composite weapon is not a valid target for the Whittling Knife.

Release Notes
Composite Atlatls will become Bonded/Attuned/Ivoryable this month. So people will need to move them wherever they should be moved before the patch.
The book on composite Atlatls previously did not mention that you could remove the handle from existing Atlatls with a Whittling Knife. This has been fixed and the book now has the correct instructions.

If your recollection and the data you have available concurs, I will be happy to add the recipe entries such that applying the whittling knife to a composite weapon with handle/fine/superb/exquisite reverts it to the original base missile weapon with no handle.
These are the most important, but I'll grab the other lower quality base) too, if that's ok.

Atlatl's are the only composite weapons mentioned to have the ability to remove the handles. It was the only book updated to state so.
There are no patch notes or anything indicating that it is possible to remove the handles from any of the composite weapons, but the Atlatl versions. Turbine has been known to be very much inconsistent, so just because it may have been added for the Atlatl weapons does not mean it was added for the others. You are welcome to add for your own server, but it won't likely be accepted into master
