Are Versions of the Plugin compatible with different Versions of Unreal

Just to prune out this possibility. Let's say I've have downloaded the embedded version for 4.20, later I've copied it the Plugins folder to 4.23, that shouldn't be working right?
I'm trying to figure out if I've accidentally copied the wrong version over, but can we confirm that the expected error message would be in that case
The following modules are missing or built with a different engine version:
UnrealEnginePython
PythonAutomation
PythonConsole
PyythonEditor
Doesn't seem to.
